Published by: Kristy Hawk

Cool, creamy and refreshing, my homemade Tzatziki is a simple Mediterranean classic made with Greek yogurt, zesty lemon juice, cucumber, onion and a blend of fragrant seasonings.

This easy dip comes together in just minutes and is delicious served with pita bread, fresh veggies, pretzels or added to a wrap.

What is Tzatziki?

Tzatziki is a refreshing dip/sauce from Greek or Mediterranean cuisine.

It’s typically made with:

  • Strained Greek yogurt
  • Grated cucumber
  • Garlic
  • Lemon juice or vinegar
  • Fresh herbs like dill, mint or parsley
  • salt and occasionally a drizzle of olive oil

Health benefits of eating Tzatziki

  • Probiotics for gut health
  • High in protein
  • Low in calories and fat
  • Nutrient rich
  • Hydrating

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of plain nonfat Green yogurt
  • 1/2 cup grated cucumber
  • 1 green onion
  • juice of half of a lemon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp pepper
  • dash of garlic powder
  • dash of onion powder
  • 1-2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 5 sprigs of fresh dill

Directions

Add the yogurt and garlic into a medium sized bowl.

Grate the cucumber and add it into the bowl as well.

Chop the dill and green onions and add them into the bowl.

Squeeze in the juice of half of a lemon.

Finally, add in the seasonings.

Stir to combine and enjoy!

I enjoy dipping Late July Jalapeno Lime tortilla chips, pretzels or carrots into this dip. I also like adding it to wraps with grilled chicken, lettuce and tomatoes.
